7 + 21 years later...

It's hard to imagine that this was us... in 1987.

... and then in 1989... Aaron's 18th birthday party... Me about to finish year 12 exams... we'd already been together 4 years by this stage.
My childhood sweetheart and literally the boy next door...

... and then in 1992... Getting married at long last.

We did everything back to front... had a baby, then bought a house, then went on a honeymoon, then got married. I finally got my engagement ring a few years ago... Time he took me on a date I think. ;)

We've been together 28 of our 42 years...

Some one asked me recently did I think I had found "your one"... I thought about it for a moment or two... I wanted to contemplate it properly, give it the consideration it demanded... and I was happy to say, with confidence, sincerity and absolute certainty that,  "Yes. I definitely found my one".  It might not have always been pretty but I know that you are my one darling husband and I cannot ever imagine not having you in my life.

Happy 21st Wedding Anniversary my love... And here's to our very own fairy tale... Complete with plot twists, dragons, monsters and villains.

Love you forever and for always.

Do you have a pile of birthday party or photo shoot or other special occasion type photos that you would like to get scrapped in one sitting?

Let me show you how...

I am teaching a class at Tomorrow's Memories on Saturday 14th December 2013 from 1pm to 3pm.

This class is a hybrid class... you will complete a traditional layout plus a pocket page using the Kaisercraft Confetti range of paper and embellishments.  Bright, happy and just gorgeous... I don't think the Kaiser website photos do it any justice to be honest.

I will also show you two other page designs that you can complete at home with the remaining kit supplies. That's four layouts in total... I know how to get the most bang for my buck. ;)

I hope you can join me for a bit of budget scrapping and fun before the silly season kicks in in earnest. Bookings can be made by telephone. Please ring (08) 9279 2183.

THEN after all the Christmas celebrations are winding down don't forget to set some "me time" aside and join us for...

Just sharin' some stuff...

I mostly consider myself a "Project Lifer" these days but I still like the occasional creative session... these were all classes that I taught at Tomorrow's Memories over the last few months...

Thursday, 8 August 2013

I have finally got myself organised and prepared a class that I will be teaching at Tomorrow’s Memories on Saturday, 31st August 2013 at 1pm until 3pm.

I am running an introductory Project Life workshop-style class for anyone who is interested in finding out what all the fuss is about.

All you non-scrapbookers... this one is for YOU too!

If you have photos stuck on iPhones and hard drives that you want to get into an album to enjoy... this class is for you.

If you have school and childhood photos you are yet to organise... this class is for you.

If you have bought PL products and are overwhelmed about where to start... this class is for you.

If you used to scrapbook and lost your mojo (but still want to document your life)... this class is for you.

If you have never scrapbooked a page... this class is for you.

If you are interested but don't know if PL is for you... this class is DEFINITELY for you.

Even if you never, ever want to get into scrapbooking... this class is for you.

Come along and let me guide you through the basics of Project Life and Pocket Page style scrapbooking.  I have been using this style of scrapbooking for almost four years now to document our lives and I am very excited to be able to share my experience with you.

This workshop-style class will explain and outline everything you need to get started in this fabulous system for documenting your life.

I will talk about the various product lines suited to pocket page scrapbooking and give a demonstration of various examples that show how you can use this system.

The class will also cover everything from how to set up a digital filing system and organise your photos to choosing a style of documenting your life that suits you best.

I will also demonstrate how to set up and get your own album started.

Finally, we will put a simple LO together and I will show you how a few simple embellishments can bring your pages to life.

Your class kit will include items from the Becky Higgins Project Life range and a sample of suitable embellishments.

For the class samples I have put together a blue toned layout suitable for boys and a pink toned layout suitable for girls. However, as class supplies will be varied, these are for illustration purposes only.  I will personally help you choose suitable cards to match your photos for your own individual layouts.

Please bring a very basic tool kit... and I MEAN basic...  that’s part of the beauty of this system... you do not need an entire rolling scrap tote I promise!

Seriously, I am talking:
  •          scissors
  •          a craft knife and mat (the store has some mats you can borrow if you don’t have one)
  •          a pen for journaling (even if you hate your hand writing!)
  •          double sided tape
  •          glue (liquid scrap dots or similar)
  •          a stapler or Tim Holtz tiny attacher
  •          a sanding block / tool if you have one.

Basic, REALLY basic. ;)

Please also bring your own alpha stickers (Thickers, flat stickers or any brand of small chipboard alphas will be suitable) to complete your title.

Please bring a selection of at least 8 to 10 6x4 photos to choose from including some that will be suitable for cropping or already reduced to 3x4 size.  These could be a series of photos of an event such as a birthday or family day out... or just a collection of your favourite photos of a child or several children.  Alternatively, if you would like to get started on a “photo-a-day” style project you are welcome to bring along a selection of photos that cover your life for a week or even a month and I will help you get started.  Coloured or black and white photos or even a mix of both will be suitable.

Please ring the store direct on (08) 9279 2183 to reserve your place.

I hope you can join me.

Just cruising along...

Corny post header... but so appropriate.

I know we have many, many supporters out there who are probably waiting with baited breath to hear news of how Austin and Albert are going... and just like the heading says they are doing just that. Cruising along. We have had a few hiccups and unscheduled hospital visits in the past few months... but we are rounding the home bend and heading into the straight now. Officially this round of treatment is finished...

The next month will see them both undergoing scans and x-rays and testing to see where we are at... and I have everything crossed that NEXT month I will be able to share the news we so desperately hope for... in the meantime I just want to say that I am just too damned scared I will jinx them by saying anything more... so please keep them in your hearts and prayers...

It would have been my brother in-law's 43rd birthday today. I reckon he is still watching over us... and our boys especially... but it still isn't any easier. We miss you mate.

Tomorrow I have some OTHER super exciting news to share... I know, I know, I hate vague-arsed teaser posts too... but please come back and check it out... I have to double check with the head honchos that I have all the info correct. ;)

I promise you won't be disappointed... ;)

How many of you have heard of Project Life? How many of you are interested to find out more about this fabulous system? How many of you want to get back to the basics? Get back to the reason you started scrap booking in the first place... recording stories and memories?

Don't get me wrong... I still love to get paint and ink under my nails on occasion... and I still love all the pretty bits and pieces... but that's the thing with Project Life... it can be as creative or as simple as you want it to be.

cultivate a good life by Becky Higgins

So getting to the REAL reason of this blog post...  I am so excited to announce that the amazing girls at

Tomorrow's Memories will be stocking

I seriously could just pee! OK, that's just TMI I know... but yeah, to say I am pretty happy about that is the understatement of the year! ;)

Now, here's MY big news... You all know my little boys, Austin and Albert... Can you believe they are going off to Kindergarten this year? I know right? Unbelievable! LOL :)  I am sure I will be a big, sooky lala on the day...  and in lots of ways I have to be honest and say I don't think any of us are ready for it... but I am so excited for them at the same time and more importantly THEY are excited so that's all that matters at this point.  All the other stuff...  we will cross those bridges as we come to them.

Anyway, so this raises the question of what to do with my time while they are at Kindy five days a fortnight?

Mmmmmmmmmmmm... what could I possibly DO with all that extra time?
Some might suggest I fold and put away those clothes you see in the background on the dining room table...
Pffffffffffffttttt. ;)

Well, I am also SUPER excited to let you in on a little secret...

I am going to be working with the amazing girls at Tomorrow's Memories in Bassendean to organise some introductory workshops in the very near future...

These workshops will show how the system can work for you... there are limitless possibilities and ideas.

I am going to say that I will be "leading" these sessions rather than "teaching" them because seriously this system is so simple you don't need to be "taught" how to use it but I would love to show you what is available...  impart my experience in using the products (2013 is my fourth year and I am loving it more every day!) and share some inspiration with you.  I'd also like to show you some ways to incorporate a little creativity into your albums and show you how, using only a few extra supplies, you can make your album as individual as you and your family are... or just stick to the absolute basics and create a gorgeous album to enjoy for years to come.

I'd love EVERYONE to come along for a look... ESPECIALLY non-scrappers... those of you who aren't into the whole "scrapbooking scene" but who would love to organise your photos and get them into albums to enjoy in the old fashion way rather than having them hidden away on CDs and HDDs where no one ever gets to see them!

I'd also like to welcome beginners, newbies, seasoned scrappers, old hands that are looking for something new to try... it really is a breath of fresh air to the scrapping world in my opinion and I am glad it is finally going to be available locally!

I am REALLY hoping there will be enough interest to turn this into a regular get together.

I'd love to hear some feedback as to when would be a good day and time to suit as many local (and anyone who wants to come visit of course!) people as possible. Please leave me a comment here if you are interested. <3 br=""> Project Life really can be whatever you want or need it to be.  It doesn't just have to be about a photo a day...

Do you have dozens of old, pre-digital (maybe less than "perfect") prints that you want to do something with but just can't find the time?  Do you want to finally get a baby album sorted and finished for your child?  Do you want to start a childhood album for your school kids?  I have ideas for brag books and travel albums and memorial books and... the list goes on and on and on and on ... It's even better than a Demtel ad! ;) Project Life can do all this and more!

Please keep an eye out here... we will be sorting dates and times in the next few weeks.

We will keep you informed as to when these workshops are going to go ahead and when the product is going to be available to buy in store.  Excited much? Ah YEAH, just a tad. ;)

{More} Project Life...

At the risk of sounding like a crazy woman... I just have to share this with you...

Yesterday I answered a question...

Why (do) YOU love Project Life so much? What does it mean to YOU?

I answered...

I started PL because I had done 365project (a photo a day) and was looking for a way to store those photos... Little did I know how much a part of my life PL would become... in my second year (2011) my twin boys became ill and it became the perfect way to document their journey... not just for the memories and emotional side of things but for the real and practical purpose of having an up to date record of what/who/when/how... Going into 2012 it became even more important to have those facts and numbers at my finger tips (I have the doctors and nurses convinced I have a photographic memory... Well, I kind of do in my PL album!) And here we are 2013... It just keeps getting better. ;)

I can't convey in just words how much Project Life means to me... I have those records of what might sound a negative part of our lives but I have also preserved so many beautiful photos of all my kids, (long suffering) husband AND MYSELF!!!!

I have made sure I have taken photos of family that I would never have bothered with... recorded little memories that would have faded away unnoticed... the list goes on and on.

I'm into the whole "keep it real" principal... balance in everything... the good, the bad, the beautiful, the completely @#$%ed up!, the heart breaking, the downright hideous and all the amazing blessings we enjoy!

I can't wait to show you how REAL it gets in my albums! ;)

I have something really cool and exciting to share... really soon... promise. ;)
