... and so another year ends

Well 2007 might not have been THE year I had hoped it would be... but then it wasn't too bad either... we finally got into our new house and have settled in fairly well. There is still some stuff to finish off but it's getting there... slowly but getting there... definitely some NY's resolutions there!

I DID get my scraproom though so finally here are some photos to share... ain't my DH just a darlin'? It's all in the way you hold your tongue you know ;) hehehehe You can bet I owe him BIG time for doing this! hahahaha I have IKEA'd my house to within an inch of it's life now.

I got these paper racks a little while ago and I LOVE THEM... bit pricey but very cool!
As you can see I have far too much paper... but I have resigned myself to the fact that I enjoy collecting it as much as I enjoy scrapping with it... and that's OK! LOL

Jeez, we drink ALOT of coffee!

The only thing left to do is get the wire put up across the top of these shelves above my desk (although I suspect I might be pushing my luck with DH! LOL). It's another IKEA thingy (meant to be used for a curtain track) and has little clips... I am going to use it as a "clip-it up" to have all those bits and pieces sitting on the cupboards (in front of the coffee jars) hanging where I can see them... and actually USE them!

So while 2007 might not have lived up to all my expectations it has still been pretty good. Scrap wise I won a couple of cool comps and won a position on the Scrap World DT. I also had 3 LOs accepted for publication in SM... ummm I think the first 2 will be in Vol 9 No. 10. So I am pretty chuffed about all that. I have made heaps of online friends and enjoyed rubbing cyber (and real) shoulders with some of the most amazingly talented (and genereous) ladies you could ever hope to meet and call friends.

Life wise the kids have grown, I have too (LOL... another resolution there too! LOL)... DH started a new management position in his job and things in our life are good. I am certainly not complaining and I know our lives are blessed...BUT

... 2008 is going to be MY year... I am determined to get my act together and get back to being the organised person that I know can be and enjoy being. I am going to join the gym, lose weight and get fit, I am going spend more time playing with my kids... instead of yelling at them! These are my New Year's Resolutions and I am determined to achieve them. You just wait and see! LOL

Tonight we are going to see in the New Year with family and friends and just enjoy being together.

We have much to be thankful for... we are safe, we are happy, we are healthy (well, that could do with some improvement as previously mentioned but you know what I mean! LOL), we are together.

I wish you and yours these simple blessings.

Here's to 2008... may it be YOUR year too.

It's a proud, proud day...

You know what? I am proud of my boy... and it would seem I don't say that often enough... today he came home with his Certificate I General Education for Adults... and better still... he was proud of himself... that doesn't happen often. My son is almost 16 and he is autistic. School for him has been a constant battle and the cause of much anguish and dissappointment... and heart ache... and that's just me! LOL The previous two years in particular (high school) were really hard. However, this past year, he has been involved in a programme for kids who are "at risk" (educationally) and who have struggled in mainstream schooling. The teacher running the programme is ex-Army (SAS I think?) and he is still involved with training cadets. He has also taken this group on several cadet camps this year. To me he is a hero... he has made a huge difference in my DS's life... he will be one of those teachers that we will never forget. Thanks for everything Mr W. The focus of the programme has been on improving self esteem, taking responsiblilty and learning to find your place in society. The kids still attend school on the school grounds and share classes such as metal work and PE with the mainstream kids but the English Literacy and Maths academic side of things has been done through the local TAFE. The Certificate is the equivilant of Year 10... nothing super in that... but for him IT IS HUGE! It occurred to me today that I have never really bragged about his achievements as they have been modest compared with most others... especially all his cousins... but really, when I think about it, he has had to work twice (or even more) as hard as most to accomplish what he has and I am so proud of him. I guess we have never wanted him labelled as "learning impaired" or "disabled"... but the fact remains... he finds some of life's challenges overwhelming... organisation is a particular battle so for him to have gotten all his work handed in on time and to have achieved this is a big deal... and I am going to tell anyone who will listen! Good on you mate... big loves and hugs... yeah, I know I am embarrassing... but I love you mate! We organised a gift to give his teacher on behalf of the whole class and he even stood up in front of everyone and presented it and even said a few words in thanks... that's another pretty big deal for him... so yeah, having a good day today... just wanted to share.

So ok... where does the time go? Does anyone else have this problem? My head is spinning! So school is out for Callie... but Brad still has four days (much to our combined disgust... I HATE getting up at 6am... which of course is REALLY 5am!!! NO, I am NOT over the whole DLS thing yet!). My BIL's treatment is going really well so far and the doctors are being quietly confident... but still a long way to go yet. Keep everything crossed for us please, or think of us in your prayers if you are that way inclined. Having 5 kids here for the past couple of weeks has certainly given me a new appreciation of my own mother who had 5 (me being the youngest)... and made me realise I DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT ANY MORE OF MY OWN!!! LOL They were all really well behaved... but jeez, FULL ON that's for sure!!!! If I think I didn't get a minute to myself before I had NO IDEA what no me time actually meant!!!! LOL So anyway, they got to go home this week for a few days then next week they are back and will most probably be here pretty much full time for the next 2 months. I will have the kids while they trip back and forth from the hospital. Thankfully my own darling husband will be home over the Christmas / New Year period so hopefully we can find some interesting things for them to do and keep ourselves sane. Please feel free to make suggestions!!! LOL I haven't done much scrapping (as I am sure you can imagine!) but we are having a CC over at SW tonight... hope you will pop in for some fun. Did I mention Mel has THE best prizes? hehehehe I promise to share some LOs and photos soon... my scrap room is almost finished... just have to put all the junk away and take some pics.

A few weeks ago I signed up for Melis' (poppysmum's) CJ... I chose "Life is Good" as my theme... mmm... so ok, I need to actually focus on that big time atm. Here is my cover:

and this is my page: I have also made my confessions to Donna (Kebab):

For some unknown reason I cannot seem to take a decent photo of my work lately. It's driving me batty! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

I am also just about to post off my stash of goodies for my Advent Swap. My parcel arrived on my door step bright and early this morning... THANK YOU KAYLA!!!! Oh, are we allowed to tell??? LOL too late now! It is VERY heavy! I have so far refained from opening anything... but given the name of my blog you can imagine how hard it has been not to take a sneak peak! I have shaken every little package though... hehehe... I LOVE CHRISTMAS!

This year we are staying home for Christmas. I can't wait to start putting the tree up... though I had better get my a into g and do some Christmas shopping before the end of next week... school holidays will be here before we know what hit us at this rate.

I have been working on some Christmas LOs for the SW DT Blog... plus we are having a Cyber Crop on the 8th December. Hope you will come for a play.

I also want to say a huge Thanks everyone for your best wishes... it means alot.

Oh I almost forgot (again! LOL)... Melis tagged me... which made me smile right back at ya baby! Did you notice the little icon thingy was our old school colours! LOL

So I tag:

Sammi because she really is a skinnybummedfairy did you know?

MelissaH because I am still smiling... did you know I am actually on a DT???!!!

Ruby just because she rox!

Amy because anyone who has been to Kalgoorlie and is still smiling makes me smile too!

Lali because she is an IDOL now!

LissyK because she just makes me smile for no reason at all... which is the best reason of all.

Shit, shit, shit... this SUX!

So it turns out the lymphoma has returned. We don't do the crying and hugging thing in our family so we joke instead... but I could see my sister was scared. I am too. It sure makes you re-evaluate. When my DH had his accident (almost 6 years ago now he came off his motor bike, dislocated his right elbow, severed the bracchial (sp?) artery and almost bled to death. He suffered nerve damage that took over 18 months to repair itself... oh and just to make it all that much more exciting I was 33 weeks pregnant with DD#1!) I can remember going through all the "what if?" scenarios. I heard once that you use up courage. I hope that's not true. I hope you build up courage and make yourself stronger and more able to deal with life's trials and tribulations. My way of thinking is if I just give these thoughts a moment's attention I will be better prepared to cope. I'd rather deal with "worst case scenarios" and be pleasantly suprised than go merrily unaware and be dealt a terrible, devastating blow. I figure I will worry for them... then they can focus on the positive... then we have all bases covered. Fuzzy logic? Or perhaps the ramblings of a delusional mind? Probably... but hey, it works for me.

Make your boys check their bits...

After just hearing about Maz's guy, Ryan, going through this a few short weeks ago it blew me out when my sister rang early this week and told me my BIL had "found a lump". I had no idea what she was saying and had to ask her to repeat it three times before it dawned on me what she meant. He was diagnosed with lymphoma 2 years ago and with surgery and several rounds of chemo beat it. Now he has found a lump in his "boys bits" and had surgery yesterday. My sister and him and their two daughters (11 & 6) are staying with me while they await the results and find out what happens next. I have been looking after their kids while he had all the tests and then the operation. No matter how much you try to stay focused on the positive sometimes you just feeling like chucking a tanty and screaming "that's not fair". Fingers crossed no news is good news at this stage.

Life is hectic... but that's nothing new!

Things have been a bit skewif at my house... daylight savings is to blame I say! but we are slowly getting there in the routine department. We had Aaron's brother and his family over for dinner the other night and we watched Transformers... VERY COOL movie and I now more than ever MUST HAVE a Camaro! I have always wanted one since I was little and my brothers both owned one of these tough cars each... oh well, I can dream at least! ;) LOL

Natalie had a crop night at Scraptivate especially for us SM Forum girls (mwah and THANKS Natalie)... yes, I know, talked more than scrapped but I did have fun and I think her royal scrappiness has SOLD me on the fact that I NEED a Cuttlebug! LOL

I have a few swaps to get organised and sent out this week and next... CJs, a Christmas Advent Swap, a tag swap and an Altered Charm Swap... better get moving on those.

I do have a few LOs to share but I will be back later... gotta get the kid to school first!

OK... I am back... these are the DT LOs I did for Scrap World. I think my brother will probably kill me if he sees the one of him... so ssssssssssssshhhhh don't tell him ok! ;) (click on it and make it bigger so you can read the journalling).

My other news is that I got some Craft Storage Cabinets... they are awesome! Cost a bit but I LOVE THEM! and they match in really well with all the IKEAing that is going on in my office... well let's be honest... it is MY SCRAPBOOKING ROOM! mwahhahahahhaha I am yet to finish putting all the cupboards together so I will share a pic when I am all done (read: when DH has been a kind and loving darling and indulged his wife in her obsession and put the overhead cupboards on the wall!!!! the free standing ones are easy but I think I will enlist his expertise for the top ones).

DLS... and at last some LOs to share

DLS is not exactly my cup of tea but I am determined to try and make the best of it... putting the kids to bed was no big drama... but getting them up in the morning was! We definitely have our body clocks set to the sun in this household... we will try to do better tomorrow! Now, at the risk of jinxing myself again, we all seem to be on the mend and things are getting better. So fingers crossed that's it for the sickies at our house!

The Cyber Crop at Scrap World was great and saw some fantastic entries... there is still the Pink Ribbon Challenge on the go and voting for The People's Choice Award is open until Wednesday midnight. Here is a LO I did for the the Sketch Challenge.

Thanks Dee for the great 6x12 sketch; the standard of entries from all the members was BRILLIANT for this one.

This is another LO I did for Scrap World's Product Inspiration last month. I love Hambly Screen Prints' Overlays and they really do work well with the Rouge de Garance papers. Celine is the Queen though!

I have been playing with the BG Periphery range this month so can't wait to share those. Melissa has put me up on the DT page at Scrap World too which is pretty cool... scary photo... but cool!!! LOL There is also a new comp running which will be heaps of fun... hope you will join in. I have some Christmas stuff to play with too so I have certainly got some scrapping to get done.
Not much else to report... happy scrapping to you... and may you and yours be happy and safe.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling...

Dear Lord in the heavens above what is going on! It's gotten worse... now the girls have gastro and they both spewed in their beds this morning... and one of them was in MY bed!!!! So now my car AND my bed smell of vomit... DEEEEEE-LIGHTFUL!!!! Oh and its raining, so it's going to be fun trying to get the sheets washed and dried... jeez I AM a whinge!!!! But I just wish everything would settle down and get back to normal... I think I jinxed myself because I was just saying the other day how we were all enjoying the lovely weather and getting over the dreaded winter lurgies... now this! I AM SO SO SO SO OVER IT!!!! Grrrrrr...

Did you ever have one of "those" days?

I did.... TWICE! Yesterday I woke up to the most revolting mucky, glued-together, "oooooooo yuk, get the hell away from me you contagious creature" red eye! Yep, I have conjunctivitis... how repulsive... so I couldn't get a doctor's appointment out here in the nether regions (I swear I live in the sickliest neighbourhood... the doctor's surgery is always booked out for weeks... I think I might just start pre booking monthly appoinments!!!!)... so today I went further a field and managed to get to see the doctor so I could tell HIM what was wrong with me and pay him $60!!!! I know I should be grateful that I have eyes TO get conjunctivitis in... but seriously I am ready to pull them from their sockets and burn them!!!! OK, sorry for the revolting graphics but I am in a bad way... and yeah, I'm gonna whinge about it! I feel like we have been sick for MONTHS and I am OVER IT! Everytime I think, "finally, we are getting better"... BAM something else hits us... it's not like we are normally this bad... just this last few months have been awful. Then to top it off, while driving home, little Miss D vomits all over the car (that DH had kindly shampooed and Amour All'd)... then she waited until 1 minute before we go to pick up Miss C from school and disgraced herself from the other end (I know she is only little but she has been the easiest of all my kids to toilet train and has been brilliant over the last few weeks so sort of wasn't expecting it)... poor baby... but of course then I was late to pick her sister up!!! So yeah, the day wasn't that great... BUT then I headed over to SM and remembered Maz and her partner and how lucky I am that Miss D was only car sick... thinking of you both chickie. On another count-your-blessings type note; I got an email today about wearing red on Fridays as a sign of support to our troops serving overseas... and those that don't come home. Did anyone else get it? Are you going to wear red tomorrow (well today?)... I am. Sorry I still don't have any cool pics to share... but I will soon I promise... I bought a new desk for my scrap room, from IKEA of course!! It has taken me the rest of the evening to get everything out of here, put the blessed thing together... (man, if you have the $$$$$ pay the man the money and get him to put it togther... I can hardly walk and my hands hurt!!!)... and then finally get everything back in here!!!! LOL Anyway, at least I am starting to get this chaos into some semblance of order. I also bought heaps of cute little jars for buttons and stuff... looks like a lolly shop with all the pretties on display! hehehehe The rest of the house looks like a cyclone has been through it... but that's pretty normal! Here's to a better tomorrow...

I did it! She dared me and I did it!!!!

LOL... poppysmum / Melis I mean... it was her (not the cat's mother!) that dared me, on more than one occassion to get my a into g and start a blog... so blame / credit her as you see fit after reading my drivel... or should that be dribble... (I guess it depends on the consistency!!! hehehe). If I had known it was this quick and easy to set up a blog I would have done it AGES ago!!! You all know how I love to talk!!! So... what do I write about here? I guess I will bang on about what's happening in my life, what I am scrapping and how my children are driving me nuts (I really do love them to bits but sometimes I think they really will drive me to drink!). I know I am an opinionated cow and I don't mind a bit of heated discussion (no name calling though... I think that just shows a lack of imagination... unless it's really witty of course hehehehe) so perhaps I can be the facilitator of healthy and constructive debate (yeah right! read: this will most likely be a place to vent!!!! lmao). I recognise the fact that if I choose to blog then I invite criticism... I have broad shoulders... I can handle it... but I can live in hope (even if it is delusional) that it might be a constructive and positive place that I create. A bit about me... ummmmmmm... I think you know most of it already probably... I am 36 in January 2008, a typical stubborn Capricorn... I'm married to my childhood sweetheart (who also happened to be the boy next door). I have three little darlings, 15, 5 and 2... and YES, they do all have the same Dad! (I get asked that ALOT!). Scrapping wise, I still think I have a heap to learn but I must be doing something sorta right because you cool chickies voted me the winner of a recent competition which I am still TOTALLY stoked about (not being up myself I promise!) because it meant I got a place on the Design Team at Scrap World. OK, here's the blatant plug... we are having a Cyber Crop this weekend... starting Friday 26th!!!!!!!!! I am time challenged (and detest DLS) so I think it starts at 7:30pm EDST... but go check it out... Melissa has THE best prizes and giveaways I promise! Oh, and even better, there is a 20% off sale and 10% of all sales will be donated to the Cancer Council's Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon Relief. OK... so there it is, my first blog entry... hope you enjoy... please pop in every now and then... and please, pretty please leave me a comment so I know I am not just talking to myself here!!! Oh, and if bribery will work... I will RAK the first person to leave me a comment... hahahahahahaha
